Buddy Programme for New Students with Disability

Programme aims:

  • To help new students with disability to adapt to campus life
  • To encourage campus integration
  • To enable participating students to extend social network

Role of Buddy:

  • To befriend with the new peer student assigned and give him/her peer support
  • To assist the new student to adjust to university life
  • All buddies are expected to commit from mid Aug till 14/15 1st semester. They are expected to maintain regular contacts with the peer student(s) assigned

Role of Voluntary helper:

  • For students who are not able to commit for one semester, they are welcome to apply to serve as Voluntary helper

Areas that you may assist:

  • To introduce essential PolyU facilities and services to them
  • To tour around campus with them e.g. exploring wheelchair routes
  • To help students in need e.g. those with visual impairment to complete subject registration
  • To take notes for them


  • Full-time PolyU students in 2014/15 and have studied in PolyU for at least one academic year
  • Strong sense of commitment
  • Caring


  • Training and ice-breaking gathering (with new students with disability) scheduled on 22 Aug (Fri) 2-5pm tentatively (co-organised with Hong Kong PHAB Association)
  • To refer special needs of peer students to STARS for further assistance


  • Co-curricular Achievement Transcript
  • SPECIAL points (30 points for training and ice-breaking gathering)
  • Buddy would be regarded as fulfilled 15-hour of voluntary services for your hall scholarship requirements, if any
  • Friendship
